Saving manufacturing from poor road infrastructure
High cost of transportation has continued to add to the problems bedevilling the manufacturing industry. Industry operators say the impact of poor roads on businesses in Nigeria is becoming too heavy for them to bear. Ronke Badmus writes



It needs no mention that the problem of transportation has become a crucial problem for the manufacturing industry in Nigeria. The difference between what companies spend on transportation (owing mainly to bad roads) and what it should have been if the roads were good has risen to an unimaginable position.

Besides monetary value in terms of costs that are being lost to poor roads, time and human resources are also being wasted daily on the roads. Sometimes, goods completely perish in single-vehicle road mishaps occurring at bad portions of the roads.
