Adamugate: FIFA only scratched the surface , Sunday Times

The two journalists who raked up mud in the voting process of the World Cup bids have told the world soccer governing body FIFA to address the multitude of questions raised by their sting operation rather than just suspend Amos Adamu and Reynald Temarii.

Jonathan Calvert and Claire Newell wrote in their column in the Sunday Times last weekend that FIFA has left much of their findings unanswered and ”serious questions”  about corruption that has bedeviled the World Cup bidding were not addressed.
Calvert and Newell claimed that “much wider allegations about illicit payments involving members and bidders, both past and present” contained in the dossier of evidence they passed to FIFA.
These included claims that supporters of a bid were offering “large personal payments for votes” of between $1million to $1.2 million; claims of payments and “dirty tricks” by supporters of another bidding country; claims that a “FIFA official” had been paid $1million for his vote in a previous bid race; claims that Morocco had paid $250,000 to secure votes when it previously attempted to host the finals.
The journalists said that it was “not clear” whether the FIFA ethics committee even investigated any of the claims.The duo wondered
