Since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, nobody from the Ogun West Senatorial District has governed the state. Several efforts made during past political dispensations by people of the district, which comprises Yewa and Awori, to clinch the governorship position were abortive due to the seeming lack of unity among the people of the area.

The elite from Yewa/Awori have started a campaign aimed at ensuring that an indigene of the district succeeds Daniel. Groups in the senatorial district such as Ogun West Youth Mandate Group; Yewa Awori Youth Agenda Forum; Yewa Sunday Forum; Yewa Youth Assembly, Yewa Awori Asks for Leadership Options have been participating in the campaign tagged ‘Ogun West 2011 Governorship Project’.
