Obafemi.
Birmingham City forward Obafemi Martins was denied his first action with his new club courtesy of a visa hitch in Nigeria, club manager Alex McLeish revealed on Wednesday.
The Blues boss however said the former Rubin Kazan player would feature against West Ham United on Sunday even if he only arrived on Saturday
Martins, whose first spell in England was with Newcastle before moving to Germany, could not get his visa processed on time in Lagos and was left frustrated at the United Kingdom embassy as Birmingham played out a 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Wednesday.
McLeish told the Birmingham Mail, “We want him back as soon as possible. Our hands are tied by the red tape. People in Nigeria hopefully will push the wee man through. He’s a popular guy and I’m told the embassy would be responsive to allowing Oba to get back in this country as soon as possible.”
The 26-year-old joined Birmingham before the transfer deadline on Monday and had promised to lift the club in the English Premier League title race. Birmingham also have a date with Arsenal on February 27 for the Carling Cup title.
