The media report credited to one of the governorship aspirants under the banner of Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] in Oyo State, Ismail Adebayo Adewusi that he had alongside other aspirants perfected plans to defect to another party because of irrecociliable differences with Lam Adesina has been denied.
He described the report as misinforming, damaging and ill-intended, and the handiwork of detractors, particularly those in the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] who had noted the soaring success of ACN in the country, insisting that he was still in the governorship race in the ACN and believe strongly in the leadership of the former governor Lam Adesina, leader of the party in Oyo State.
The newspaper report entitled ''Oyo ACN guber aspirants accuse Lam of favouring Ajimobi'' disclosed that governorship hopeful was ready to dump the ACN and decamp to the newly-formed Accord Party [AP].
In a statement signed on behalf of Adewusi by his Personal Assistant, Abiodun Ojediran, he said ''my attention has been drawn to a damaging story credited to me in the newspaper to the effect that I and other governorship aspirants have perfected plans to dump our party, ACN for Accord Party in order to realize our ambition in 2011 simply because our leader Alhaji Lam Adesina has allegedly favoured one of us against the others''.
He further maintained that there was never a time he got annoyed with Adesina over his alleged preferential support for any of the governorship aspirants in the state as reported, saying, ''Lam is our leader and I respect his leadership style, moreso that he had said it for the umpteenth time that he would not impose any candidate on the party, but would rather allow for level- playing ground in the coming congress where a candidate will emerge by people’s votes''.
Speaking further, he said, ''I am a progressive and I will always remain so. I have no link with the Accord Party and I do not contemplate it. We build the ACN together and we are going to continue to nurture it.
''Considering the fact that I went through a lot of stress and spent my money on the party, particularly in 2007 when eventually I was even denied the governorship ticket, it will be unwise of me to now think of romancing with another party. I have been committed and dedicated all along and so I will never dump our party'', adewusi said further .
While assuring that he would continue to work for the progress of the party , the governorship aspirant equally restate his unalloyed commitment and loyalty to the party and its leadership in Oyo State, expressing the belief that all the aspirants would go to the field to test their popularity without anyone being imposed on others by the party.
