SAMSON SIASIA
Holland 2005 U-20 World Cup silver medallists – Femi Ajilore and Yinka Adedeji – have backed Samson Siasia to succeed as coach of the Super Eagles.
The duo played under the Bayelsa-born coach at youth level and both are optimistic that he would bring his magic wand to bear on the Eagles.
”We know Siasia‘s class and the approval of his appointment by every Nigerian is a testimony of his coaching quality,” Ajilore, who plays in the Dutch Eredivise for Groningen, said on Monday.
“What he needs now is the support of everybody; I believe he can take the Eagles back to where they belong internationally.”
FC Pyunik of Armenia defender, Adedeji, said Siasia‘s record as a coach was unequalled by any Nigerian coach, adding that it was every Nigerian player‘s dream to play under the former international.
He said, ”Without sentiments, Siasia still remains Nigeria‘s best coach. He is the only one that took the national U-23 team to the final of the football event of the Olympic Games. So what do we want again? I am happy for the appointment and I believe every player will like to work with him.
”He‘s like a father to all of us who have played under him and I don‘t think any player holds any grudge against him.”
Also, AC Cesena of Italy striker, Odion Ighalo, said he was happy with the appointment after a long wait by Siasia. Ighalo was captain of the Siasia-led Flying Eagles that crashed out of the U-20 World Cup in Egypt last year.
