Newcastle improved after the break and Jonas Gutierrez ‘s deflected cross had to be cleared off the line by Marek Cech. But the Baggies made sure of the points with an Odemwingie brace (71st, 89th) minutes respectively before substitute Peter Lovenkrands scored a late consolation for the Magpies.

Eagles’ coach was said to be highly excited to see one of his players tearing the wall of Newcastle’s defence apart to make the difference for West Brom. The Eagles’ coach expressed hopes to see more of such performance from other Nigerian players in Europe as he begins work to build a new team for Nigeria in the Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers.
