Ayo Omidiran
A member of FIFA Organising Committee, Alhaja Ayo Omidiran, has said that the weak league structure in Nigeria is the bane of women’s football develop-ment in the country.
Speaking with journalists in Ibadan after the South-West meeting of the Women’s Football Club Owners Caucus on Saturday, Omidiran noted that the lack of sponsorship was another factor against the development of the sport in the country.
She urged government at all levels to pay more attention to the game so that new talents could be discovered.
Omidiran, who is the Proprietress of Omidiran Babes, said the women’s league could reduce poverty and joblessness in the country if given adequate funding.
She solicited the votes of the South-West in the forthcoming Nigerian Women’s Football League Chairmanship election.
She said, “If elected, the first and most important challenge that I will make sure I tackle will be the issue of sponsorship.
“A professional league without sponsors is not really professional. It is even worse than an amateur league. When the sponsorship problem is resolved, the other challenges will fall into place.”
