VC charges owners of private students’ hostels on security

Vice-Chancellor, University of Ado-Ekiti, Prof. Dipo Kolawole
The Vice-Chancellor, University of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prof. Dipo Kolawole, has appealed to operators of private hostels outside the campuses of the nation’s institutions to provide adequate electricity supply and security in their various hostels.

In a statement on Monday, Kolawole said this while addressing students of the institution on accommodation and security issues on the campus on Thursday.

The VC, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olorunfemi Olaofe, spoke against the backdrop of complaints by the inmates of the privately owned hostels that there was lack of adequate electricity supply and security in their private hostels. This, the students said, had led to a situation whereby they were incessantly harassed by hoodlums.

The VC has, however pledged to have a directory of the affected hostels in order to discuss with the owners on the way forward.

He also urged the students to monitor strange looking persons among them and report such to security agents.

He said, “The institution will not condone a situation whereby hoodlums and unwanted elements will continue to disturb the peace of the students.”

Earlier, the spokesman for the students, Mr. Oluwaseun Adeniyi, had appealed to the university management to prevail on the owners of the private hostels to provide electricity and adequate security to prevent unwanted elements from visiting them at night with the intention of committing crimes.
