It’s year end again and as usual, entertainment activities are beginning to heighten. Joining the list of very anticipated end of year functions is the South South Music Awards- SSMA 2010. This year’s ceremony will hold on the 5th of December.
Now in its second year, the SSMA is put together to reward music videos of South-South origin. Debuting last December at the Civic Centre, Benin, the event is organised by Lockdown Entertainment, producers of Music Mix – a popular music show in the Niger-Delta region.
The venue for this year’s awards will be the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre in Benin City
Awards will be given out in twenty categories including: Best R N B (Solo and Group), Best Gospel (Male and Female), Best Collaboration, Most Popular Video (non-indigenous) and Video of the Year. Five of the twenty categories are newly introduced. They are: Best Vocalist, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Record Label of the Year.
Artistes expected at this year’s SSMA include: 2Face, Mo’Cheddah, Ill Bliss, Terry G, Kefee, Knighthouse and Mode 9. While last year’s Honorary Lifetime Achievements awards went to Kenny Ogungbe of Kennis Music and Alec Godwin of Alec Music, organisers have kept mum on who the recipients for this year’s honorary awards will be.
The Niger-Delta region is credited with producing some of the biggest musical acts in the history of the Nigerian Music Industry.
