Septic tank death: Suspects yet to meet bail conditions

The suspects in the case of a pupil, Master Uchechukwu Nwazuo, who was found dead in a septic tank on the premises of King of Kings Nursery/Primary School, Okota, Lagos, are yet to perfect their bail conditions.

PUNCH METRO learnt that as a result of the development, the matter, which was scheduled to be heard on Monday at an Ebute Metta Magistrate’s Court, had to be deferred.

On November 8, 2010, two suspects, Mr. Nwosu Benjamin, 59, and Mrs. Anekwe Nwosu, 36, were arraigned before the court for negligence and unlawfully causing the death of Nwazuo.

Benjamin, the proprietor of the school and Anekwe, a class teacher, were said to have contravened Section 325 of the Criminal Code of Lagos State.

The accused then pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum by the magistrate, Mrs. M.O. Olubi, who held the forte for Mrs. Kikelomo Doja-Ojo.

The magistrate, however, said the sureties must be the suspects’ relatives; have identity cards; means of livelihood; sworn affidavits; three years tax clearance certificates and one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 5 or above.
