Kaduna guber: Hunkuyi, another aspirant disqualified

Yakowa

A strong contender with the incumbent Governor of Kaduna State, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa for the 2011 gubernatorial election, Alhaji Sulaiman Uthman Hunkuyi has been disqualified by the Dr. Shettima Mustapha-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) North-west screening Committee.

The report of the committee released yesterday indicated that Hunkuyi was not cleared to compete in the forthcoming gubernatorial primary elections in the state over alleged incomplete tax clearance.

Governor Yakowa, Idris Shuaibu Mikati and Mrs. Mairo Baturiya Habib, (the only female amongst the 16 aspirants) were the three that escaped the Committee’s hammer from Kaduna State.

In his swift reaction to the development in Kaduna yesterday, Alh. Hunkuyi who spoke through the Chairman of the Hunkuyi Campaign Organization, Alhaji Yaro Sulaiman told Daily Sun in an exclusive interview that his camp was not surprised by the outcome of the Dr. Shettima Mustapha-led committee.
In his words: “We are not surprised by the outcome of the committee because we know we are facing strong oppositions that do not wish us to scale through and deliver good leadership to the people of Kaduna State.

“We know that Vice President Muhammad Namadi Sambo has planted some of his loyalists in the screening committee. “History has shown that the same process was used to disqualify the legendary Mallam Aminu Kano. So, we’re not surprised and we shall employ the same process to clear you.
“I want you to know that we have made available three years tax clearance to the committee and I don’t think it is morally right for a sane man to believe that somebody who had been cleared to contest in the past for three times could be said not to be cleared in this contest.

“We shall take all appropriate steps to ensure that we change the status quo as we appeal to our teeming supporters to remain calm and continue to be law abiding.” He said. The other gubernatorial aspirants from Kano State, Adamu Aliyu Sumaila was not cleared due to his inability to produce his tax clearance and submitted affidavit in place of voter card.

All the incumbent governors from the 6 North- west PDP controlled states were cleared.
The former Governor of Kano State and former minister of defence, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso, Habibu Shuaibu, Mohammed Adamu Bello and Kabiru Muhammed were the 4 that had been cleared to slug it out in the Kano State primaries.

Governor Aliyu Magatarda Wammako, Governor Ibrahim Shema and were the only candidates from Sokoto and Katsina respectfully. While Governor Usman Nasamu Dakingari escaped with only one aspirant, Abubakar Abubakar who did not appear for the screening. Governor Aliyu Mahmud Shinkafi and former minister of state for information, Ikra Aliyu Bilbis were the 2 that were cleared to wrestle for the PDP governorship slot in Zamfara state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), North West electoral screening committee commenced screening of gubernatorial aspirants in the zone on Tuesday . The Committee was headed by Dr. Shettima Mustapha as Chairman, Senator Musliu Obanikoro, member, Col. Austin Akobindu member, Mohammad Rafi Umar member and the North west zonal secretary, Baba Lawal served as the Committee’s secretary.
