NFF sets Nations Cup final target for Siasia

Samson Siasia
The Nigeria Football Federation has set a 2012 Nations Cup semifinal target for newly appointed Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia.

Besides working with the Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and the U-23 coaches in ensuring a consistent development, Siasia must impress his employers at the Nations Cup before his contract can be extended to 2014 when the Eagles are expected to play at the World Cup.

The Chairman of the NFF Technical Committee Christopher Green told our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday that Siasia would be allowed to pick his assistants.

”Siasia will not have an automatic contract to take the Eagles to the 2014 World Cup,” Green said.

”He must first convince everyone that the team can succeed under him.

”What we‘re doing is to give him a contract till 2012, while hoping the team will get to the semifinals of the Nations Cup. If the team do well, he gets a contract extension till after the World Cup. If they don‘t, the contract will be reviewed otherwise.”

He added, ”He has already named Simon Kalika as one of his assistants but the NFF will name a second assistant for him before the end of November.

”We all want him to succeed and we want the Eagles to return to winning ways, hence the decision to leave him with his plans. The NFF will assist in every way he wants because we want him to be responsible for the success of the team.”
