Fayemi
The dissolution of the 16 local government councils in Ekiti State by Governor Kayode Fayemi, is causing fresh ripples within and outside the fountain of knowledge, reports SUNDAY ABORISADE.
Local Government chairmen in the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State knew that the big hammer would fall on them following the sacking of the government that midwifed their election into offices. Little wonder, stakeholders posit that the council chairmen filed a suit to keep their jobs.
The council bosses, under the aegis of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria had on October 18, filed an interim injunction at an Ado-Ekiti High Court to restrain the governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from dissolving their administrations.
But the suit, filed on their behalf by their counsel, Mr. Obafemi Adewale, some other analysts have argued, was technically defective as it did not sue the governor, in his official capacity.
The lead counsel to the governor, Chief Tony Adeniyi, at the resumed hearing of the case last Friday, pointed out that the plea was defective and ambiguous.
Interestingly, the ALGON counsel agreed with Adeniyi’s submissions and offered to withdraw the case to enable him to file a fresh one.
