Tears as ex-Ekiti deputy speaker, is buried

Tears flowed freely on Thursday as the remains of the late Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Saliu Adeoti were interred in his in Otun-Ekiti, country home.

The 39-year-old former deputy speaker who represented Moba Constituency 1 at the state assembly, died on Wednesday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, after a prolonged undisclosed ailment.

Before his final journey to his home town, a brief lying-in-state, attended by prominent politicians, was conducted for the deceased lawmaker at the assembly chambers.

Young and old people across political and religious divides, who worn mournful looks, besieged the assembly complex as early as 8.30am to catch a glimpse of the late legislator.

They could not hold back tears on sighting the ambulance marked EK 93-A08 with the inscription of the University Teaching Hospital Ado-Ekiti, which conveyed Adeoti’s body.

The state Deputy Governor, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Olayinka, eulogised the former deputy speaker for his contribution to democracy, especially the installation of the current administration in the state.

The state chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mr. Jide Awe; the secretary of the ACN, Mr. Bayo Idowu; a former governor of old Ondo State, Mr. Bamidele Olumilua; the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi; and other party leaders paid glowing tributes to the deceased lawmaker.
