President Goodluck Jonathan
The Goodluck Jonathan/Namadi Sambo Campaign Organisation is restrategising its operations in the North West zone because of recent developments in the states in the region.
Sunday Tribune gathered during the week that the reception accorded former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during his recent visit to Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa States is one of the reasons behind the need for a drastic review of its strategies.
Another reason is the absence of five of the six PDP governors in the zone during the final opening of the North West presidential campaign office of Jonathan/Sambo in Kaduna.
Some of the governors were on hand to recieve Atiku Abubakar in their offices.
In Kaduna, Atiku was recieved in audience by the state governor, Patrick Yakowa and members of the state House of Assembly.
In Kano, State, where former Governor Kwankwaso is the deputy zonal coordinator of the Jonthan/Sambo Campaign, Atiku was recieved by party delegates cutting across members of the state’s House of Assembly, the National Assembly and party leaders from many of the 40 local governments areas of the state.
Former Vice President Abubakar was also in Jigawa where he met with Governor Sule Lamido and made a personal donation of N10 million to victims of recent flood in the state.
Meanwhile, the Good Governance and Continuity of Nigeria (GCN), Kano State chapter, has rated high the Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, among the four presidential aspirants from the North, saying that he (Dr Saraki) possessed necessary requirements and more sellable in all the six geographical zones of the country because he has no political impediment unlike others.
This is coming as the GCN in Kano State said going by what Dr Saraki’s administration has achieved in Kwara State, giving him a chance to rule the country will be profitable to the masses of the country.
Alhaji Murtala Alaaya, secretary, GCN, Kano State chapter, made the assertion on Saturday in Kano during a visit to the state by members of GCN in Kwara State led by their Secretary, Alhaji Issa Jetti. He said if the North was serious of wrestling power from the incumbent president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the incumbent governor of Kwara State is a better choice to adopt as a consensus candidate.
Leading other members of the association which included, Alhaji Tunde Bello, Assistant Secretary, Alhaji Saliman Babakinni and Alhaji Suleiman Kijipa, Alhaji Alaaya noted that other PDP presidential aspirants from the North, like Gen. Ibrahim Babaginda, former vice president, Atiku Abubkar, Gen. Aliyu Gusau and even Gen. Muhammad Buhari had at one time or the other been given national responsibility, but disappointed the nation.
Speaking in the same vein, Alhaji Jetti added that Dr. Saraki was a trusted, tested and reliable presidential aspirant in view of the laudable transformation the state has recorded during his administration.
