DISSATISFIED with the recent judgement of the appellate court in Ilorin, Kwara State in which the Peoples Democratic Party lost the gubernatorial seat to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Ekiti State chapter of the party has called for a probe of the judgement.
Also the party called on the National Judicial Council (NJC) to undertake a review of all judgements relating to the elections in Ekiti State since 2007.
The Ekiti State chairman of the party, Chief Bola Olu-Ojo who disclosed this to newsmen after a visit to the national secretariat of the party in Abuja requested for a detailed investigation of the circumstances surrounding “the alleged leakage of the Court of Appeal judgement to the Action Congress of Nigeria before it was delivered, as evident in the statements of the national publicity secretary of the ACN.”
According to him “the investigation should encompass all the two judgements of the lower tribunal, all of which gave victory to the PDP candidate, Engineer Segun Oni, and the two at the Court of Appeal, one of which called for a rerun and the final one which voided the entire elections by cancelling the votes of Ido/Osi local government which is the home base of the former governor, Engineer Segun Oni.”
Stating reasons behind the call for the probe, Chief Olu-Ojo informed that it was to unravel the contradictory pronouncements against the established precedence on electoral matters, saying that “ the Court of Appeal voided the elections in 2009 because a wrong biro was used in marking the voters register by INEC officials.”
