Eto’o is Africa’s best player

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto‘o was on Monday named the 2010 Glo-CAF African Player of the Year in Cairo, Egypt.
The Inter Milan forward beat Ghana and Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan and Cote d‘Ivoire and Chelsea’s Didier Drogba to the highly coveted trophy. He becomes the first player to win the award four times.
The former Barcelona star had won the award in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Eto‘o had an impressive year as his goals helped Inter win five unprecedented titles as the Italian giants emerged the best club in Europe and the world.
Nigeria swept the awards in the women‘s category as Super Falcons striker Perpetua Nkwocha, whose 11 goals propelled the women‘s national team to a sixth African Women‘s Championship title in November, was named as the Best Woman Player of the Year for the third time.
Nkwocha, who won the award in 2004 and 2005, was picked ahead of teammates Stella Mbachu and Ebere Orji.
The Falcons were also named the Women‘s National Team of The Year, beating AWC finalists Equatorial Guinea and the Falconets, finalists at this year‘s U-20 Women‘s World Cup, to the award.
Ghana also won the National Team of the Year award while former Black Stars manager Milovan Rajevac beat Egypt‘s Hassan Shehata and TP Mazembe‘s Lamine N‘diaye to the Coach of the Year award.
Ghana and Udinese‘s impressive 22-year-old midfielder Kwado Asamoah beat Niger‘s Moussa Mazzou and Algeria‘s Ryad Boudebouz to the Most Promising Talent of The Year award.
DR Congo side TP Mazembe scooped the Club of the Year award after a fantastic performance in 2010 winning the CAF Champions League and reaching the final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Saturday.
The Best African-based Player award went to Egypt‘s captain Ahmed Hassan, who was the best player at the Angola 2010 Nations Cup.
Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Taye Taiwo were named in the Africa XI. Other players in the XI are Didier Drogba (CIV), Wael Gomaa (Egypt), Madjid Bougherra (Algeria), Gyan, Kevin-Prince Boateng (Ghana), Hassan (Egypt) Ahmed Mamady (Egypt), Andre Ayew (Ghana) and Eto‘o
Presidential awards were given to Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroon, Cote d‘Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana and South Africa respectively.
