Aware of the importance of role of public-private partnership in provision of health care, Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Isaac Owolabi, has reiterated the need for stronger partnership between Oyo State and private health care providers in the attainment of the health related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Dr. Owolabi made this known during a working visit to Our Lady of Apostle Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, Oke-ofa and Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital in Ibadan.
Dr. Owolabi, declaring that private health facilities had offered critical services in the reduction of maternal and child mortality rates in the state, urged that the price of their services be made as pocket-friendly as possible.
While stressing the state government’s resolve to continue to collaborate with the private sector on healthcare delivery, the commissioner declared that all avenues to any eventual outbreak of cholera had been blocked.
He added that facilities to take care of cholera were already in place by the government.
Sister-in charge of Our Lady of Apostle Catholic Hospital, Oluyoro, Oke-ofa, Sister Josephine Obi, assuring of provision of healthcare at minimal cost, said poor electricity supply and poverty were challenged faced by the hospital.
Sister Obi urged the government to come to the aid of indigent patients and ensure that hospitals are given preference in the supply of electricity supply in the state.
Meanwhile, Dr. Owolabi disclosed that already the State governor, Otunba Adebayo Akala had directed that negotiations be opened on the demands of striking doctors.
Chairman, Association of Medical and Dental Officers of Oyo State (AMDO), Dr. Jeremiah Simire confirmed the ongoing discussion between executive members of the association and the government, declaring that the industrial action had been annulled.
