17 perished in auto accident in Delta
No fewer than 17 people were yesterday feared dead in Asaba , Delta State capital, when a mini bus rammed into a truck on the busy Onitsha-Asaba-Benin expressway.
An eye-witness, told Daily Sun that the ill-fated truck, marked Abuja XL 987 ABC, was heading towards Benin when it had a burst tyre near the newly constructed Maryam Babangida Way and somersaulted over the crash barrier.
According to him, the mini bus marked Enugu XA 594 ENZ, which was heading to the eastern part of the country collided with the truck which was fully loaded with gravel. He disclosed that only three people, including an infant, survived the crash.
The mini bus reportedly caught fire and burnt to ashes immediately after the crash.
Sympathisers, including the police and men of the Federal Road Safety Corporation (FRSC), were on sight to assist in the rescue operation and rushed the victims to hospital for treatment. When Daily Sun got to Federal Medical Centre, the victims were undergoing treatment as the doctors and nurses worked tirelessly to save their lives
Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr. Nnnamdi Ogbogo, confirmed the story but could not disclose the number of victims as at the time of filing in this story The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, Mr. Charles Muka, also confirmed the accident but explained that he was yet to get the full details.
