What sets me apart from other music producers is that I allow artistes express themselves

TY Mix
Except for those he works closely with, not much is known about wave making music producer Temitayo Ibitoye popularly known as Ty Mix. The Ikare, Ondo State indigene who has been in the music industry since 1999 speaks to Nkarenyi Ukonu about his job and sundry bits about himself.

Why are you called TY Mix? The guy under whose tutelage I trained, Daniel Jones, presently in the United States of America started to call me that name and it stuck. My name Tayo usually comes with the acronym Ty. I didn‘t plan to have a brand name.

How did you get called to be one of the judges in the MTN sponsored Project Fame academy?

At that time, I was working on Darey‘s Undareyted album and the CEO of Ultima Ltd, Mr. Femi came to talk to Darey about being a host. Darey told him he was working on his album and went on to play some of the songs for him. Liking the beats he heard, he asked to see me. Mr. Femi was to later call me to tell me about producing some of the winners which I readily agreed to do. But when they came to Abuja for the auditions, they needed judges and I was called to be one of the judges because I do music and would of course have an ear to detect a potential star. Besides I am well known in Abuja. Few weeks after that time, I got a call from Ultima Studios saying they would like me to be part of the judges in Lagos. According to them, they went through the tapes of the auditions in Abuja and they were impressed with the way I analysed, spoke and did my thing generally and I was invited over to Lagos to officially be one of the judges.

How would you describe the show?
