Security personnel on Thursday night rescued a seven-year-old girl, Jamila Ahmed, kidnapped two weeks ago in Bauchi.
The suspected captors of the girl, four men and two women, along with their two babies, were arrested by the security agents.
Briefing reporters on the rescue operation, the Bauchi State director of the State Security Service (SSS) said on Thursday night, in the state capital, that SSS operatives, soldiers, and the police undertook the mission.
Ms. Ahmed is the daughter of a former executive secretary of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Ahmed al-Mustapha. She was kidnapped while being conveyed to her school, the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University International School, Bauchi, two weeks ago.
The SSS director, who refused to disclose his name, said his men initiated the operation while the military and police gave them cover. He said the operation led to the discovery of the suspected kidnappers' hideout in Wuntin Dada, a suburb in the Bauchi metropolis.
Arms and ammunition, comprising a General Purpose Machine Gun, 221 rounds of 7.62 military ammunition and grenade, as well as suicide jackets, among others, were recovered from the kidnappers, he said.
The girl's father described the incident as "very traumatic" and expressed his happiness that his daughter was physically and mentally well. He said the abductors had requested for an undisclosed amount of money from him on phone, but he heeded the advice of the security agents not to pay any ransom.
She recounted that when she was kidnapped, the captors told her they would take her home, but fed her and did not harm her.
Meanwhile, the suspects were taken to Abuja, on Thursday night, while Ms. Ahmed was reunited with her parents.
About three months ago, a son of a former commissioner for finance in the state, Dahiru Garba, was kidnapped, and later abandoned by his captors.
