The Super Falcons will on Thursday play the Lionesses of Cameroon in the first semifinal match of the ongoing African Women‘s Championship in South Africa.

Nigeria secured their spot at this stage after amassing maximum nine points to top Group A while Cameroon booked their place after they ended the preliminary stage with seven points to stay second in Group B.

In the matches played on Monday Cameroon defeated Algeria 2-1 while defending champions Equatarial Guinea beat Ghana 3-1 to lead the group. Equatorial Guinea will play South Africa in the second semifinal match.

Meanwhile, veteran Falcons forward Perpetua Nkwocha is aiming to be the top scorer in the tournament. She already has seven goals to her name in the competition and looks likely to realise her dream.

”I am looking forward to being the top scorer at the end of this tournament,” she was quoted on Supersport.com as saying on Monday.

”Two years ago in Equatorial Guinea I did not score any goal. So I aim to put all that behind me and be the top scorer once again.”

The Falcons assistant coach, Bala Nikya, said on Sunday in Johannesburg that the team would play better against Cameroon.

“I think the team is getting better going by the way they have been improving with every game,” Nikya said.

The coach said every member of the team had been improving and gave an assurance that there was no cause for alarm, no matter who they meet in the final stages of the competition.
