Matayas
When a person is capable of doing extraordinary things, it makes it difficult to introduce him in the extraordinary way that suits. Matayas, real names – Matthias Akintosin Aragbada Jnr is not your average “up and coming” artiste.
As matter of fact, it sounds weird to say he is up and coming because the quality of music he is bringing to the table surpasses the regular.
Like most talented artistes,(local and abroad), Matayas started singing in church and later continued in the University (Ladoke Akintola University of Technology) where he formed a group called GQ.
The group, which also had the “Overkillin” star, Djinee as a member, became very popular and placed them on most of the school’s social events and platforms.
Apart from learning his keys and notes in the church choir, Matayas paid close attention to the likes of Michael Jackson, Boys 2 Men, R Kelly and Craig David; their music and craft inspired him a great deal. His music is about giving hope to the troubled spirit in every nooks and crannies, “my mission is to redefine music in Nigeria, and be seen as a symbol of creativity and an artiste beyond a singer” he adds.
His debut album will be unleashed in bits, starting with the recently released single, titled “Unbreakable” which is inspired by a true life story.
The video for “Unbreakable” is reaching finishing touches and it’s in collaboration with Mex – same guy that directed outstanding videos like “Safe” by M.I, “Overkillin” by Djinee and “Ogini” by Lil Jojo to mention a few.
Matayas is here to stay and in his words, “people should expect the unusual”.
