Ekiti deputy speaker, Saliu Adeoti, dies

Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Saliu Abayomi Adeoti, died on Wednesday of an undisclosed ailment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He was aged 39.

Adeoti, who was last seen at the inauguration ceremony of Governor Kayode Fayemi on Saturday, October 16, 2010, and appeared pale and unhealthy, was said to have been ill for a very long time.

A member of the family, who preferred anonymity, told our correspondent that the late Adeoti’s health suffered a devastating set-back since February this year when his wife died of cancer.

The source said the late speaker had not enjoyed a perfect health since then. The nature of his ailment could not be ascertained as at press time.

Sources within his family, however, hinted that he might have suffered the same fate with his late wife, being a heavy smoker.

A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Fayemi on Media, Mr. Mojeed Jamiu, on Wednesday, said the state government regretted the death of the deputy speaker.
