Bomb kills 2 police officers in Quetta, injures 8

Two police officers were killed and eight people were injured Wednesday when a roadside bomb targeted a police van in the western Pakistani city of Quetta, police told CNN.
The van was on routine patrol near Baluchistan University when the bomb exploded, according to Junaid Ahmed, a Quetta police official.
The police officer driving the van was killed as was a constable. Eight other people were wounded, Ahmed said.
Quetta is the capital of Baluchistan province and believed to be the base of the Afghan Taliban, who fled Afghanistan after U.S. and international forces moved in late 2001.

For years, Quetta has been plagued by sectarian violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims, along with Baluch separatist militant groups who want political autonomy.
