Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, is targeting the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup holding in Brazil for the team.
This was made known by his yet to be named Dutch assistant,  Simon Kalika, in an interview with MTNfootball.com.
“What Samson has in his mind is that Eagles must surpass what they have achieved so far. For him, Nigeria must play in the final of the 2012 Africa Nations Cup and must also play in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,” Kalika said.
“This may look like a tall order but it is achievable. Everything is a matter of good and long-term planning. We need to start the job now and work on the likely players who can give us the results.”
Dutchman Kalika, who first worked with Siasia at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup, revealed that even before Siasia bagged the Eagles job, they have been compiling a data of Nigerian players both at home and abroad.
“Before he was even given the job, Samson and I have already compiled the notable Nigerian players in Europe and Africa and we have done the same too with the players in the Nigerian league, who only need a little more time to make them better players,” he offered.
“This is very important if we hope to do well with the team. When the time comes, Nigerians would see these talented players gradually coming into the team.”
Kalika further told MTNFootball.com that the era of boring defensive football by the Eagles is now history.
“The era of playing boring and defensive football by the Super Eagles is in the past now. Football is for entertainment, happiness and relaxation and it should be so while you are playing it.
“This is possible through hard work by the coaches and the players.”
He added: “Samson wants to bring back the cherished attacking style of the Super Eagles. He wants to bring back the attacking instincts of the Eagles. He believes that when a team attack and attack, they would definitely score goals and scoring goals is the only way a team can continue to win games.”
