Jonathan, IBB, Atiku battle for the soul of Kogi

Kogi State is set for a battle royale as President Goodluck Jonathan, former military president, Ibrahim Babangida(IBB) and former vice president, Abubakar Atiku; size up each other for the control of the state
chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP). 
Ahead Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) primaries, controversies over the issue of zoning the presidency may have been laid to rest.
Already, the issue has caused some divisions between the Southern and Northern parts of the country with some states already pitching camp with President Goodluck Jonathan’s ambition, while some are supporting former military president, Gen Ibrahim Babangida and former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, two leading contenders from the Northern extraction.
In the heat of the controversy, Kogi is one of the states in the North that came out boldly to throw its weight behind the presidential ambition of Jonathan.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held recently at the Lugard House, Lokoja, which was presided over by Governor Ibrahim Idris, it was unanimously agreed that the state would no longer be subservient to the Hausa- Fulani’s hegemonic tendencies, who had in the time past ‘used ‘the state only to dump it later.
The meeting specifically pointed out that when some strategic positions were zoned to the North during the second tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo, and one of the positions was given to Kogi, some Northern elements vehemently opposed the candidate presented by the state, saying the state was not part of the core North.
