Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Danjuma Goje, has promised to deliver over one million votes as well as the entire People Democratic Party delegates from his state to President Goodluck Jonathan and his running mate, Vice-President Namadi Sambo.
The state has an area of 20,265 square kilometres and a population of 2.4 million people.
Goje, who made the pledge when he received the Director-General of Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation, Senator Dalhatu Tafida, said that as a loyal member of his party, he could not afford to do anything that would stop President Jonathan from clinching the party’s presidential ticket for 2011 elections.
He said, “On our part, we are ready to cooperate because we are loyal to the party. We are not going to do anything to shame our leader.
“I assure you that you have no fear from our side. Our state may be small but in terms of elections, our people are very articulate. We delivered more than one million votes in the last elections.”
Earlier, Tafida had told the governor that he was in the state to canvass support for Jonathan
Tafida stressed that the people of Niger Delta had always offered a helping hand to the North. He added that the time had come for the North to reciprocate the gesture.
Tafida, however, commended the governor for his achievements such as the construction of Gombe Airport, roads and other development projects in the state.
