Drug Scandal: Glaxo Whistleblower Nets £60m

US government says Glaxo actions were intentional
GlaxoSmithKline has been forced to pay a whistleblower £60m - as part of settlements worth almost £500m for selling contaminated drugs.
The products, ranging from baby ointment to anti-depressants, were manufactured at a huge factory in Cidra, Puerto Rico between 2001 and 2005.
And the hefty payout in fines and damages comes after the Pharmaceutical firm admitted contamination was a risk at the plant, which was closed last year.
Federal authorities were first alerted to the problems at the Cidra facility by one of the company's quality managers, Cheryl Eckhard.
But when she tried to raise her concerns with senior managers at Glaxo, she was fired.
The US Department of Justice said the company was now facing fines of $150m (£95m) and related state claims totalling $600m (£378m).
